A representative of a group of parents in California recently contacted me to share a letter that they had submitted to the state Senate Judiciary Committee in opposition to Assembly Bill 1184. You can read all about the bill here.

The gist: the bill would permit insurance companies to cover the administration of hormonal and surgical procedures on covered individuals without notifying the policy owner (i.e., it would allow insurance companies to physically harm the minor and adult children of parents whose insurance covers them without notifying the parents themselves).

The letter is as exceptional as it is painful to read. It deserves to have everyone’s eyes on it.

On July 13, 2021, the California Senate Judiciary Committee voted to PASS the bill, over the objections of these parents. The amount of cruelty being exhibited by these state Senators is astonishing. The bill next goes to the Appropriations Committee, and, assuming it passes, to the state Senate floor for a final vote before it goes to Governor Newsom (the same Governor who thinks it is perfectly fine to house convicted male rapists and murderers in women’s prisons, knowing that these men are perfectly capable of impregnating the women who they rape).

Below, I am sharing, with the group’s permission, both the letter and the oral testimony of the group’s representative.

Everyone needs to know that the California Senate Judiciary Committee voted 6-1 to pass this bill, over the explicit objections of distraught parents who are trying to save their children from mutilation and sterilization.

For California Democrats to advance this legislation, over the explicit and reasoned objections of concerned parents, is nothing short of deplorable.
